Imipramine – Tofranil

Imipramine (Tofranil®) is an antidepressant medication. It is classified as a tricyclic antidepressant, which refers to its chemical structure. Imipramine, like other tricyclic antidepressants, has been used as an effective treatment for depression, chronic pain and headache prophylaxis.

Patients who have heart problems such as angina pectoris, other cardiovascular or cerebrovascular diseases affecting the blood vessels, or seizures may not be able to use this medication.

Side effects include sedation, dizziness and dry mouth.
