Reader's Mail: Hydrocephalus Headache

Q. Can a hydrocephalus headache affect only one side of the head, including the eye?

A. Usually the headache is more generalized, but there are multiple causes of hydrocephalus that can change the features of the headache.  The spinal fluid pressure is not always elevated in hydrocephalus. If it is normal, the hydrocephalus may have nothing to do with the headache.

In this situation, it’s best to see a neurologist who is also a headache specialist.
