01 Mar NHF Supports #leakweek 2018
Join the National Headache Foundation as we take part in #leakweek, March 4 – 10, 2018. Hosted by the Spinal CSF Leak Foundation, the week-long initiative seeks to shine a light on this often disabling disease, as well help and inform undiagnosed patients.
because your dura maters℠
To function normally, the spinal cord and brain are bathed in cerebrospinal fluid. The dura mater is a membrane that forms a tough layer around the brain and spinal cord that hold the spinal fluid. A spinal leak is the result of a hole or defect in this dura mater which leads to a cerebrospinal fluid leak.
This year, #leakweek will focus on encouraging early diagnosis of intracranial hypotension (low CSF volume/pressure in the head), which occurs when there is low spinal fluids and causes intense positional headaches, which are worse when standing and better when lying down. By seeking treatment early on, patients’ suffering is reduced and they are that much closer to their cure.
