The National Headache Foundation (NHF) is excited to receive funding that allows us to enter Phases 3a and 3b of Operation Brainstorm™ with Women in the Military. We will be addressing the unmet needs of women active-duty and veterans with a focus on navigation to headache and migraine awareness, diagnosis, care, and prevention.
DEERFIELD, Ill., February 24, 2025 – The Lundbeck US Charitable Fund announced today that its donating $225,000 to the National Headache Foundation (NHF) over the next two years in support of the organization’s Operation Brainstorm™ Women in the Military Initiative.
Operation Brainstorm provides navigation and outreach support, resources, and education for veterans, active duty, and families living with headache disorders and migraine disease. NHF will utilize the funding in the next phases of the initiative to tailor navigation support specifically to make a difference in the lives of women in the military who continue to face significant gaps in access to high-quality, evidence-based headache and migraine disease communications, education, tools, and resources specifically developed and produced for women.
Today with more than two million women veterans in the U.S. (fastest growing group in the veteran population), and over three million by 2040, a focus on women is essential. Studies show 30 to 37 percent report a history of migraine, meaning that well over 600,000 are suffering and need care. For those who have experienced post-traumatic stress (PTSD) or a traumatic brain injury (TBI) these statistics are even higher.
“Women who serve our country deserve access to timely diagnosis and innovative, high-quality care and the National Headache Foundation (NHF) is dedicated to ensuring each woman has access to the navigation resources they need to live their best lives. The generous support provided by the Lundbeck US Charitable Fund enables us to expand our reach in support of Operation Brainstorm’s mission,” said Susan Lane Stone, CEO of NHF. “By focusing on women’s specific health needs and preferences, we hope to empower them to proactively seek the essential care they deserve and optimize their quality of life.”
Phases 3a and 3b of the Women in the Military initiative will include awareness and educational materials, podcasts featuring military and veteran guests, and outreach efforts to engage the community regionally and nationally through events and omni-channel communications.
“It’s an honor to partner with the National Headache Foundation (NHF) as part of this important initiative to support women active-duty personnel and the more than two million women veterans,” said Molly Poarch, President of the Lundbeck US Charitable Fund. “Given the unique vulnerability of the veteran community to suffer from brain health disorders, our fund strongly supports organizations like NHF who are leading meaningful efforts to advance care for this population.”
