Biofeedback is an effective protective procedure to sooth the nervous system before it responds with a migraine. At the first indication that a migraine may be on the way, a migraineur needs to make time for herself by taking 10 minutes to warm her finger temperature to 96 degrees F while listening to relaxing music. Research demonstrates that temperature biofeedback is as effective as Inderal in preventing migraine without the side effects.[i.] Over 500 studies[ii.] support the benefits of biofeedback as being threefold: 1) stabilize the sensitive nervous system of the migraineur during interictal periods; 2) lessen the frequency of migraine; 3) increase the migraineur’s sense of control.
