Dawn Marcus graduated from the State University of New York at Syracuse medical school in 1986.
She completed a neurology residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and is a professor at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Marcus has authored over 100 articles on the topics of chronic pain and headache, and has given numerous training sessions and invited lectures on the topics of chronic pain and headache in the United States and internationally. She has also been the principal investigator on research projects investigating pain epidemiology, pathology, treatment, and women’s issues that have been funded by regional or national sources.
She has also authored numerous books on chronic pain and migraine, including 10 Simple Solutions to Migraine, for which she won the 2007 Excellence in Media Award from the National Headache Foundation, and Effective Migraine Treatment in Pregnant and Lactating Women. She recently co-authored two books on common pain problems in women: a practical and comprehensive guide for women with migraine called The Woman’s Migraine Toolkit. Managing Your Headaches From Puberty to Menopause, and a new book offering holistic treatment of fibromyalgia that includes step-by-step instructions for a wide range effective treatments, including medications, exercises, yoga, relaxation techniques, and nutritional supplements to be released this summer called The Woman’s Fibromyalgia Toolkit: Manage Your Symptoms and Take Control of Your Life. She was recently nominated for the WEGO Health Activist Silver Stethoscope Award for her work promoting better health through social media.
